FLAGLER SAID "NOT SO FAST" TO DATA CENTERS WHERE DO YOU STAND?

This is the vote everybody out here is talking about, so let's break it down and then I want to hear from you.

What happened:

On Monday, July 13, Flagler County commissioners voted unanimously to advance a one-year moratorium on new data center applications.

The key facts:

It's NOT a permanent ban — it's a temporary pause.

It covers only the UNINCORPORATED parts of the county (outside city limits).

The goal: give staff time to write zoning, location, and review rules BEFORE applications come in.

One commissioner called it "planning before permitting."

It still needs a final vote, set for August 3.

Here's the part people are arguing about:

Supporters say data centers bring jobs and tax revenue to the county.

Others raise concerns about water use, energy demand, and noise near homes.

And Flagler isn't alone, counties all across Florida are wrestling with this exact question in 2026.
